Hey everyone! It's Navaratri again! So I have returned with these.
Goddesses Devasena (right) and Valli Amman (left) are the two wives of Karatikeya. Devasena is the heavenly wife of Murugan. She was given to him by Indra after his constant triumph over demons. Valli Amman is a healer and hunter goddess, who won Murugan's heart when he traveled to the southern part of India. Like him, she is a warrior. She appealed to the side of him that was very much like his father.
There's a theory that these two goddesses represent the heavenly, mandated marriage (which is deemed proper) and marriage which is out of love and desire. It could also reflect the clash of cultures (as one community favors Valli while another favors Devasena).
